Holy living is not merely avoiding obvious sins or appearing respectable before others. It is the sincere desire to please God in every part of life, including our thoughts, motives, words, relationships, work, and private conduct.
“Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him” (2 Corinthians 5:9).
This desire does not earn salvation. We obey because we have been saved by grace, not because obedience can purchase God’s acceptance. Yet the grace that forgives us also teaches us to turn from ungodliness and live for the One who redeemed us.
“For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13).
Holy living asks more than, “Is this permitted?” It asks, “Does this honour Christ? Does the magnify Christ or self? Does it agree with His Word? Can I do this with a clear conscience before Him?” The true believer does not seek the lowest level of obedience required to escape judgment. He longs to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord.
“So that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects” (Colossians 1:10).
We will not live perfectly in this life, but His grace and His power produces a new direction with new affections. Holy living is the daily pursuit of pleasing God, quick repentance when we fail, and growing obedience flowing from a love for Christ.
